Camping, Canoeing, Hiking and Mountain Biking

Just had a lovely camping adventure in the Forest of Dean with Matt.

Stayed at Bracelands Campsite which is located in a forest clearing at the top of a rather large hill (spent an age driving up it!).

Arrival - Weds 21st
It was a very scorching 32 degrees upon our arrival and, with not many fellow campers around, the place had a very chill and relaxing atmosphere.

Explored the forest just behind the campsite in the evening and discovered a brilliant barbecue spot for our evening barbies.

The forest is very alive!

Luckily the temperature dropped to around 22-27 degrees the following days.

Day No.1 - Thurs 22nd
Hiked to Symonds Yat , brilliant views, managed to get lost a bit and hiked an extra 2 miles in the wrong direction (stupid map!).

Approx 8 miles hiking total, knackering...

...an evening barbecue ensued.

Day No.2 - Friday 23rd
At 5am in the morning, I shuffled off to the loo sharpish....

...the loo lock broke!

Would have had a right meltdown if I hadn't managed to climb over the top into the next cubicle...

...I was careful with the loo and shower locks after that!

Civilization turned up (weekend family campers) from 9am onwards, totally ruining the ambience of the place - wasn't that bad though.

Spent the day mountain biking and canoeing to/up/from the River Wye, was well knackered by the time we had rode back up the hill to the campsite...

...another Barbecue ensued.

Departure - Saturday 24th
Had a wee 3 mile mountain bike ride around the campsite in the morning, energy levels were good.

Who would have thought packing a tent away afterward would be totally exhausting?

Returned home knackered and happy... 😁

Spotted: Bats and deer
Heard but not spotted: Those elusive wild boar

 ... I'll be back!
