Sunshine at last!

First ride out this year to Witlenge Garden Centre Cafe with Bob & Paul and a long time since I last rode almost 50 miles (49.31 to be exact!) Was nice to get a decent ride out in sunshiney weather, healthy dose of Vitamin D all the way! Rather annoyed I missed the detour for ice cream though - made up for it with chocolate when I got in!

Umberslade Farm Park

Was planning on riding on Weds but work plans got in the way so my free day was today (Tuesday) instead.

Didn't have a riding plan in mind just figured I would ride if I fancied it, as Thursday's forcast says raining all day I decided to follow my nose for 20 odd miles. On top of that the ice is set to return at the weekend so today was the last chance to get a ride in for at least a week and a bit.

Wasn't supposed to stop but as I neared Umberslade Farm Park I had thoughts of venturing down the lovely long tree-lined road to the Farm Park Cafe and buy just a diddy cappuccino. Upon approach I thought to myself 'nah I won't bother' as supposed to be cutting calories... but then subliminally I rode down there anyway (Ha! brain wins!)

At the cafe the counter was deserted, I ended up waiting for about 5 minutes before a server appeared... as I waited I found myself eyeing up around 6 different cakes in the cabinet, they looked so nice I couldn't resist trying a slice of the Belgian chocolate cake. Turned out to be delish! 😋

Quite a few parents with toddlers inside the cafe "Cows go Moooo!" etc...

Strava reveals it had been 4 years since I last visited the place - I had never been impressed much with the cake previously so quite a surprise to find today's cake a 10/10.

Enjoyable ride with 25 miles covered, maybe I shall frequent in another 4 years time :)

Today's Fuel:
Jam on brown toast  x 2 (pre ride brekkie)
1 x slice of Belgian choccy cake (10/10)
1 x small cappuccino

Wedges

Need to write this up

Wedges!!

To get back into the swing of things decided to ride a flattish route out to Wedges Bakery with Bob & Paul. Cake of the day was a very large chocolate eclair - delish! 33 miles.

Botany Bay With The 'Tashe!

It's been a loooong time since it's been cycling weather, the weekend just passed had bought heavy snow (AKA The Beast from the East). Todays temperature has a high of 7 degrees.

Long overdue exposure to Vitamin B is required...

Decided to go on an adventure to Botnay Bay as hadn't been there for a long time and it is a fairly flat route out and back.

We were surprised to find there was snow still about on the verges, some of it high in places... but even more surprised to find snow completely blocking the road half way up London Lane, in the distance there was 2 abandoned cars!

Managed to detour around and had a top notch slice of fruit cake at Botnay Bay yum!

Our return route took us through more snowy lanes and once more we found snow blocking the entire road...

A glorious intrepid adventure was had, felt quite different to ride through snow filled verges.

42 miles covered and the Vitamin B exposure meant the grumpiness was gone!

The ascent up Forehill at the end was easier compared to last time.

Rowberrys Garden Centre with The 'Tashe & Col Headset

Cycling weather at last... a sunny winters day with a high of 7 degrees!

Decided to go to Rowberrys Garden Centre Cafe as haven't been there in over a year.

Nice outbound ride with little undulations in places.

We arrive at Rowberrys to find they are refurbishing the cafe, it is currently split into two sections, cakes and snacks downstairs and full cooked meals upstairs. Was much better for us as we only wanted cake and hot drinks, plenty of empty tables downstairs to choose from.

I had a nice slice of Bara brith bread - similar to fruit cake.

More undulations on the way back with the ascent of Forhill at the end, been a few months since I have done hills... I did wonder if I could be bothered with the 14% kick at the end as I was a little lighter the last time I rode up it (ahem)... pleased to report I could be bothered and it was ok... WattBiking has paid off!

Legs felt it a bit the next morning though... soon be back into the swing of things... providing the ice man doesn't return! 😀

Today's Fuel:
Weetabix, oats and honey (pre ride brekkie)
Bara brith bread
1 x Banana
1 x packet Trek Cranberry Kick Protein Chunks (taste a bit like cherry bakewell tart yum!)
1 x ltr water
